KRISHNAGIRI: The Veppanahalli police in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday registered a case against a group of youths who blocked a road while celebrating the birthday of one of them and allegedly attacked road users who objected to their action. It was the birthday of Santosh, 27, of Yanaikkal Thotti near Veppanahalli on Tuesday. On Tuesday evening, Santosh and his friends celebrated his birthday on the Veppanahalli-Nachikuppam Road by cutting a cake after placing a table in the middle of the road. They erected banners and burst firecrackers. They beat drums and danced. They blocked govt buses and other vehicles, causing distress to road users. Their celebrations in the Nachikuppam Kootrodu area went on for a long-time, affecting traffic.
“Some people asked them to move to the roadside and celebrate. But they were not ready, ” said J Vignesh, a road user. Police said the group attacked some people who objected to their birthday celebrations on the road. “Two men area, identified as Easwara Rao and Abhimanyu, were injured in the attack,” said a police officer.The group fled the scene before police arrived. Police removed the banners.Police registered a case against Santhosh and others based on a complaint filed by Rao. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Santosh and friends had been involved in gambling for many years. “Some cases are pending against them at differed police stations in connection with gambling,” the officer said.
