Amritsar: Unseasonal rain and hailstorm have caused damage to the standing wheat crop across several parts of Amritsar, leaving farmers distressed and staring at losses. The sudden change in weather at a crucial stage of the crop has not only reduced yield but also affected grain quality, with many farmers reporting blackening of wheat grains.Baljinder Singh, a farmer, said frequent weather fluctuations had made agriculture increasingly unpredictable.Guriqbql Singh, another farmer, said after facing extreme heat earlier and devastating floods last year, the latest spell of rain had destroyed whatever crop was left. “The grains have turned black, and there is hardly any hope of recovery,” he said.MSID:: 130002908 413 |
