Amravati: Six hundred residents of Vidarbha Maharogi Seva Mandal in Tapovan, Amravati, were on the brink facing a cooked meal crisis following a month-long gas shortage. The institution, which serves leprosy-affected individuals including many elderly women, was struggling to cook meals, forcing residents and staff to resort to makeshift arrangements. But timely help by MP Balwant Wankhade to supply LPG cylinders resolved the situation. “The situation was dire, and it’s unacceptable that the administration failed to respond promptly,” Wankhade said and added, “We will ensure that such neglect doesn’t recur.”Mandal president Dr Subhash Gawai, had previously alerted the administration, but to no avail. Wankhade’s intervention has brought relief to the residents, who are now hopeful for a better future. The incident highlights the need for greater sensitivity towards marginalized communities and the importance of proactive governance.
