Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has announced a major revamp of the six-km Vande Mataram Road, nearly two years after carrying out a large eviction drive along the stretch linking Mansarovar and Prithviraj Nagar.Following a recent survey, JDA has prepared a redesign plan for the 200-foot-wide road, regarded as the widest in the city, with the twin aim of improving road safety and enhancing its appearance.Officials said the project will focus on correcting several deficiencies identified during the survey, including the absence of footpaths, missing signboards and multiple accident-prone locations. The vulnerable points include six circles and two major junctions on the stretch, among them Bharat Mata, Kharbas, Vande Mataram, Hayatt and ISKON circles.“First we are going to implement h a proper lane system and redesigned the entire stretch as per Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards, on the lines of roads in Delhi and Ahmedabad,” stated a JDA official.Under the proposal, JDA plans to build a 35-40 feet main carriageway, with 20-25 feet service roads on both sides. The redesign also includes 8-10 feet wide footpaths, a green belt and utility corridor, and a proper storm water drainage system.“There will be separate corridors for underground lines for water, sewerage, electricity, telecom, gas and streetlights. We would make busways and parking slots on both sides,” another official added.Apart from safety upgrades, the authority is also preparing a beautification plan for the corridor. Initial proposals include installing monuments inside the six circles and improving junctions and dividers with green plantations.Officials said the transformation is expected to significantly alter the look of the road between New Sanganer Road and Muhana Mandi within six months. The connecting New Sanganer Road–Muhana Mandi stretch will also be redesigned as part of the broader exercise.“In the next six months, we are hopeful to change the look of the stretch from New Sanganer Road to Muhana Mandi. The New Sanganer Road–Muhana Mandi stretch that meets this stretch will also be redesigned. Around 10,000 vehicles pass through this road daily, so junctions will be upgraded accordingly,” another official added. The project is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce accident risks and create a more organised urban corridor in one of Jaipur’s rapidly developing areas.
