Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET)-2026 concluded successfully across the state on Friday, with nearly 89% of the registered candidates appearing for the examination.The three-day examination also witnessed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based surveillance that led to the detection of 44 impersonators and one candidate attempting to cheat using a mobile phone.According to Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) chairman Prashant Kumar, the written examination for primary level (Classes I to V) and upper primary level (Classes VI to VIII) was conducted on July 2, 3 and 4 across 60 districts.The upper primary level examination was held in two shifts on July 2 and the first shift on July 3. Of the 12,11,459 registered candidates, 10,57,055 appeared, recording an attendance of 87.25%.The primary level examination was conducted during the second shift on July 3 and the first shift on July 4, with 7,13,659 of the 7,83,202 registered candidates appearing, resulting in an attendance of 91.12%. Female candidates recorded an attendance of 87% in the upper primary and 90.85% in the primary examinations.On Saturday, the final shift of the examination was conducted at 955 centres across the state, where 3,34,775 of the 3,79,316 registered candidates appeared, registering an attendance of 88%.Overall, 17,70,714 candidates appeared for the examination against a total registration of 19,94,661, taking the overall attendance to 88.77%.To ensure the integrity of the examination, the commission deployed its members along with retired IAS and IPS officers as observers. They continuously inspected examination centres, while an AI-integrated Control Command Room established at the commission headquarters monitored all centres in real time. AI-enabled cameras installed at examination centres kept a constant watch on candidates’ activities.The AI-based monitoring system detected 44 impersonators attempting to appear in place of registered candidates — 14 on July 2; 11 on July 3 and 19 on July 4. In addition, one candidate was caught attempting to use a mobile phone during the July 3 examination. All those apprehended were handed over to the local police for legal action.Kumar said the examination was conducted smoothly, transparently and without disruption.He thanked the district administrations, police, vigilance department, special task force (STF), observers, centre superintendents and other officials for successful and fair conduct of the state-level examination.
