PRAYAGRAJ: Police have registered a case against Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Handia, Hakim Lal Bind, and four others following the mysterious deaths of two brothers within a span of 22 days in Banpurwa village, officials said on Saturday.Police said the accused have been booked on charges of criminal intimidation and conspiring to murder the two brothers in a village under the Handia police station limits in the district’s Ganga Nagar zone.Deputy commissioner of police (Ganga Nagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said on Friday that the deceased’s brother, Sunil alias Dara, alleged in his complaint that his elder brother, Santosh, died by suicide after hanging himself from a tree on June 11.The complaint accuses five people of threatening Santosh and conspiring to orchestrate his death, police said.Gunawat said a case was registered at Handia police station on Friday based on the complaint under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He added that further legal action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and other evidence collected during the investigation.(With agency inputs)
