Bokaro: A day after a fire destroyed several shops near Sector-6 Daily Market crossing, Bokaro deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha on Monday ordered an inquiry into the incident. Suspected illegal electricity connections and unauthorised LPG refilling activities will be investigated.Jha directed Chas SDO Prajal Dhanda to conduct the probe and take appropriate action based on its findings. BSL’s township municipal services department has also been asked to inspect the area and act against violations of safety norms.The fire broke out on Sunday morning and quickly spread to several shops. Firefighters recovered eight LPG cylinders from the site, averting a potentially major disaster. The discovery has raised suspicions that an unauthorised LPG refilling unit was operating in the market.This is the third recent fire in Bokaro in which illegal gas refilling or power connections have come under scrutiny.Earlier, a fire at an unauthorised LPG refilling unit in Siwandih triggered multiple cylinder explosions. In another incident at Sector-4 City Centre, several shops were destroyed in a blaze allegedly caused by a short circuit linked to illegal electricity hooking. An unauthorised gas refilling unit was also reportedly operating there.The latest fire has renewed concerns over illegal power connections and LPG refilling activities allegedly being carried out on encroached land in BSL township. The recurrence of such incidents has also raised questions about the frequency of inspections and the effectiveness of enforcement measures.The district administration has asked BSL management to take preventive and corrective steps to curb such practices and ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
