Ranchi: City police have busted a bike-lifter gang by arresting six of its members and recovering of four bikes from their possession, police informed on Monday. Another accused person involved in an old case was also caught during the operation.Police said that the arrested persons included the key accused Irfan Ansari, 24 and his associates Mohammad Kaish Alam, 21, Moshin Rai, 26, Imran Alam, 25, Mohammad Zafraullah, 20 and Saif Ansari, 22.Sahid Rai, 22, was arrested in a bike theft case registered with lower Bazaar police station in 2021.City superintendent of police Paras Rana said, “Ranchi’s SSP Rakesh Ranjan had instructed the police control room van and the tiger mobile to keep a vigil over the district hospital (Sadar) in view of frequent bike thefts in the area. On Sunday, police received information about a suspicious person in the hospital premises and a team was sent for verification and suitable action. Ansari was caught from the spot while the remaining five were apprehended from different parts of the city based on information provided by him. Sahid was also caught in the same operation.”He said that four bikes bearing registration numbers of Jharkhand were recovered from them.Police informed that the gang used to steal bikes from different parts of the city including Bariatu and sold them in rural areas of the district including Bedo, Sisai and Bharno. Police added that the bikes were sold at minimal prices ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 adding that they were remodeled at local garages and sold again.
