T’puram: Thiruvananthapuram district special court on Thursday reserved its order till Saturday on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Vellanad panchayat president Sasi, who is accused of killing a porcupine, an animal protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act.Sasi had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case registered by the forest department under the Wildlife Protection Act. After hearing the plea on Thursday afternoon, the court posted the matter for orders on Saturday.Forest department sources said further action, including arrest, will depend on the court’s decision on the bail application. The case relates to the alleged killing of a porcupine that had strayed into a house at Valiyara in Vellanad last Saturday. Residents had alerted ward representatives and the forest department after spotting the animal. However, before the rapid response team could reach the spot, Sasi allegedly used an iron pipe to beat the animal to death. tnn
