Times News NetworkKanpur:More than 100 houses were inundated as Pandu river rose in Pipauri area of Bidhnu, Kanpur, prompting NDRF teams to evacuate residents trapped in water up to 6 feet deep.District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, CDO Abhinav J Jain, SDM (Sadar) Abhinav Singh and NDRF team commander Ajay Singh inspected relief and rescue operations that started on Friday.The officials reached the affected areas by motorboat with an NDRF team, which rescued elderly residents trapped on the first and second floors of houses in Pippara village and evacuated several others stranded in deep water.They said the NDRF had been continuously evacuating residents since Thursday night. The situation had worsened since the previous night, with the river rising rapidly and water reaching about 6 feet inside several houses. They said Pandu river was about 600 metres from the village and had been rising continuously for three days.Floodwater damaged household belongings and submerged motorcycles parked inside homes.Families moved beds, refrigerators, cylinders, ration and other essential items to safer places. Many locked their inundated houses and erected roadside tents, where they were staying with bedding, ration and other belongings. Families were particularly concerned about children and elderly people.The district administration set up camps for affected residents and identified schools and guesthouses as night shelters. It was also arranging food and drinking water and established a camp to distribute relief material and ration to families whose houses were inundate
