Times News NetworkKanpur:Ganga’s water level rose by 5cm in Unnao overnight on Saturday, while stagnant floodwater continued to disrupt daily life in Shuklaganj and nearby low-lying riverside areas.Central Water Commission data showed the river level increased from 112.290 metres at 6pm on Friday to 112.340 metres at 6am on Saturday. It stood at 112.320 metres at 6pm on Thursday.Despite an earlier decline in the river level, conditions have not returned to normal in low lying localities Karbala, Husain Nagar, Mohammad Nagar, Shahi Nagar, Gotakhor, Saiyyad Compound, Srinagar, Malviya Nagar and Manohar Nagar.Floodwater has accumulated around houses, making it difficult for residents to leave their homes, commute and obtain daily necessities. Residents said water had remained stagnant in low-lying areas for several days and was not draining quickly, leading to foul smells, unhygienic conditions and an increase in mosquitoes.Prolonged waterlogging has raised concerns about diarrhoea, fever, skin infections and mosquito-borne diseases. Residents have demanded cleaning, pesticide spraying and anti-larval measures in affected areas, saying relief would come only after flood water was completely drained from residential localities.
