Kanpur: MP Ramesh Awasthi on Saturday held a review meeting with officials of various departments to take stock of city roads, development projects and traffic problems caused by recent rains.Officials from Municipal Corporation, PWD, Jal Kal, Jal Nigam, NHAI, Metro and KDA attended the meeting at the MP’s service centre.Awasthi reviewed progress department-wise and sought updates on roads, sewerage, drains and works under CM Grid scheme. He directed better coordination among agencies to prevent delays. Concerned over rain-damaged roads, he asked Municipal Corporation and PWD officials to identify stretches needing urgent repairs and undertake patchwork on priority for smooth traffic movement.”Major roads should remain accessible and traffic should not be disrupted,” he said, stressing need for permanent solutions where repeated patchwork is required and adherence to construction standards. He directed civic chief engineer Syed Farid Akhtar Zaidi to transfer major roads wider than eight metres to PWD, which should submit a proposal to government for developing them as RCC roads. The meeting also reviewed construction of 14 drains with Rs 138 crore sanctioned by Centre. Awasthi sought a detailed report on CM Grid roads and said he may conduct surprise inspections after Sunday to check quality and progress.
