Kanpur: Cantt police arrested an interstate smuggler and recovered 6.6kg of ganja that he had allegedly brought from Bihar, police said. The accused was produced in court on Saturday afternoon and sent to jail.Station house officer Arvind Rai said police had received information that a large consignment of ganja was being brought to Kanpur from Bihar. Based on the inputs, two police teams were deployed to nab the accused.He said that at around 9 pm on Friday, during a checking drive near Gora Kabristan, the suspect tried to flee on spotting the police. However, the cops nabbed him after surrounding him from all sides.The accused was identified as Bhola Kushwaha, a resident of Gopalganj in Bihar.Police said he was involved in drug trafficking across state borders.Serious criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder and molestation, have already been registered against him, police said.Cantt Police Station registered a case under the NDPS Act and seized the recovered ganja.Police said teams were searching for the accused’s network, supply chain and other smugglers allegedly linked to him.
