Kanpur………………10Kanpur: A married man and his alleged married lover died by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance in a hotel in the city’s Collectorganj police station area on Saturday evening. The man was a resident of Fatehpur and the woman a native of Unnao.Police said they consumed a poisonous substance at a hotel in Nayaganj under the Collectorganj police station area. On Saturday at about 4.30 pm, information was received from Surya Hotel that the condition of a man and a woman had deteriorated in one of the hotel rooms. The incident came to light four hours later, at 4 pm, when hotel staff visited Room No. 106. Police said both had taken Room No. 106 on Saturday at 12.30 pm after showing their Aadhaar cards.As soon as information was received, ACP Collectorganj Anand Ojha reached the spot with the police force and forensic team. The forensic team collected evidence from the room and is investigating and collecting evidence.Police sent the bodies to the postmortem house (mortuary) of Ursula Hospital and informed the family members of the deceased. According to the preliminary investigation, the case appeared to be one of suicide. Police are investigating the exact cause of death, and the investigation is continuing.Assistant commissioner of police (Collectorganj) Anand Kumar Ojha said, “On receiving the information, the local police immediately reached the spot and sent both to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared them dead.At first glance it appears that both had consumed some poisonous substance. Their family members have been informed. Other necessary legal action is being taken in the matter, and further action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report and other evidence.”
