Jaipur: Cabinet minister Kirori Lal Meena has sought a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or an independent probe into the financial network of absconding paper leak accused Suresh Dhaka, alleging that Dhaka’s father was allotted a mining lease worth nearly Rs 20 crore while his son remained on the run in multiple recruitment exam paper leak cases. In a four-page letter dated July 10, shared with the media on Saturday, Meena termed the alleged mining lease allotment a “serious matter” and urged the state govt to investigate whether money earned through the paper leak racket had been invested in mining or other businesses.“The financial transactions, bank accounts and properties of Dhaka, his family and associates should be investigated to expose the entire network behind the paper leak scam,” Meena wrote, demanding an SIT or an independent agency probe. He also alleged that senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid had appeared for Dhaka in the Rajasthan High Court in July 2023.The letter has triggered fresh political speculation, with many viewing it as reflecting Meena’s dissatisfaction with the handling of the investigation despite the BJP projecting its crackdown on the paper leak mafia as a key achievement.Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully said the demand exposed divisions within the ruling party. “If a cabinet minister himself is seeking an SIT, it clearly shows he has no faith in the investigation being conducted by his own govt,” Jully said. He alleged that dragging Khurshid’s name into the letter was aimed at attracting the BJP leadership’s attention while putting the Bhajan Lal Sharma govt on the defensive
