Kanpur: The city witnessed relatively dry weather coupled with high humidity on Tuesday despite a 95% forecast probability of rainfall.Dark clouds gathered twice during the day, raising hopes of moderate showers, but soon dispersed, giving way to bright sunshine.The maximum relative humidity recorded at the CSA University observatory was 89%. Northeasterly winds blowing at speeds ranging from 5.1 to 9.8 kmph provided only marginal relief from the sultry conditions.Despite the sunshine, the maximum temperature dipped marginally to 34.2°C, 0.4°C lower than Monday’s 34.6°C. However, the minimum temperature rose to 27°C, making the night relatively warmer.A yellow alert has been issued for the division, with dense cloud cover, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning forecast in some areas.The IMD has forecast a 65% chance of heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms late at night or during the early morning hours.CSA weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said increasing atmospheric moisture and the formation of new weather systems were likely to strengthen moisture flow over the region.He said the Kanpur division could witness cloudy conditions from Aug 13, with intermittent strong winds and scattered light to moderate rainfall.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely at isolated places, while strong surface winds may prevail in some areas. Sunny spells are expected intermittently, but humid conditions are likely to persist.
