Kanpur: City once again remained largely dry on Friday, with only very light drizzle reported in few pockets. The CSA weather observatory recorded just 0.4 mm of rainfall. Intermittent cloud cover and sunshine pushed up the mercury, with the maximum temperature touching 34.5°C, leaving residents to endure sultry weather conditions.As Thursday had also remained dry, the minimum temperature rose to 26°C on Friday. The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 91 per cent, while north-westerly winds blew at a speed of 2.4 to 3.9 kmph. The combination of high humidity, rising temperature and weak winds made the weather particularly uncomfortable throughout the day.The India Meteorological Department (IMD), however, has forecast a strong possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours, on Saturday (August 22).According to the IMD forecast, skies across the division are likely to remain partly cloudy to heavily overcast, with the possibility of lightning and strong winds in some areas. In Kanpur Nagar, the sky is expected to remain heavily overcast throughout the day.Weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said increased atmospheric moisture and the formation of fresh weather systems were leading to a greater influx of moisture. Isolated pockets could receive heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning. Saturday morning is likely to begin with cloudy skies and light rain.
