Times News NetworkKanpur: The district administration will soon launch a special campaign against those bikers who perform stunts on roads and take action against bikers who drive without helmets.District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Friday in a meeting of district level road safety preventive committee directed the officials to ensure the strict compliance with road safety rules. Explanations were also sought from two executive engineers of the PWD regarding the laxity in removing encroachments from the roads.The traffic police department in the meeting informed that in July, the police and the transport department carried out a large-scale enforcement drive against traffic violators. Combined data from both departments shows that action was taken in 39,021 cases of riding two-wheelers without helmets, 11,778 cases of wrong-side driving, and 9,151 cases of speeding.Additionally, enforcement actions were taken in 1,807 cases of driving without a seatbelt, 1,809 cases involving modified silencers and pressure horns, 1,453 cases of driving without a license, 931 cases of using a mobile phone while driving, 902 cases of operating a vehicle without a fitness certificate, and 363 cases of drunk driving.Action was taken in 44 cases involving school vehicles found to be non-compliant with prescribed standards, including instances of underage driving.The PWD provincial division failed to provide clear information regarding the status of encroachments on its roads. Expressing displeasure over this, the district magistrate sought an explanation from Anoop Kumar Mishra, executive engineer of the Provincial Division.
