Kanpur: Rising water levels in Pandu river have increased people’s difficulties in Varun Vihar, Barra-8.As the water started entering the houses, several families have moved to safer places with children and essential belongings. Locals alleged that despite apprising the concerned authorities, no help has reached from the administration. Residents said that on Wednesday night, water started entering homes after which they had to move to safer places.According to locals the problem of waterlogging arises in the area every year in monsoon. When the water level of the canal and Pandu river rises, families have to vacate their homes and move to higher places.Meanwhile, the water level upstream of the Ganga Barrage was recorded at 113.620 metres, 38 cm below the warning point at 114 metres and downstream at 113.470 metres. According to gauge reader Uttam Pal, 1,34,584 cusecs and 91,940 cusecs of water were released from Haridwar and Narora, respectively. In Shuklaganj, the level of the Ganga has been recorded at 112.24 metres.The administration and the irrigation department has intensified the monitoring of the rise in the river. The administration has also issued an alert in flood-prone areas as well as in 176 villages of the Katri area.
