Ahmedabad: In the bootlegging race, eastern Ahmedabad is so far ahead of the west that the value of booze seized in the east (from Jan to July) accounts for 71.5% of the value of police’s total liquor haul from the city. The western belt’s seizures were concentrated in Sarkhej and Sola, which recorded combined values of Rs 1 crore and Rs 94.4 lakh respectively.Together, the two areas accounted for more than four-fifths of the western belt’s recorded seizure value. In the first seven months of 2026, five eastern police stations alone accounted for more than half of the value of booze seized from across the city.According to Ahmedabad police data for Jan to July, police stations recorded seizures worth Rs 12.5 crore — country-made liquor worth approximately Rs 92.6 lakh and IMFL worth around Rs 11.6 crore.Eastern police stations accounted for Rs 8.9 crore (71.5%) of this value. Western police stations’ booze seizures were worth about Rs 2.4 crore, or 19.3% of the city seizures’ value, with the balance coming from other jurisdictions. The east also led in case numbers. It accounted for 4,099 of 5,897 cases involving country liquor, or 69.5%; and 1,030 of 1,558 cases involving IMFL, or 66.1%.Among the police stations of the east, Naroda recorded the highest combined seizure value in the city at about Rs 2.04 crore, followed by Ramol at Rs 2.01 crore, Nikol at Rs 1.5 crore, and Narol at Rs 1.4 crore.Sardarnagar, with Rs 44.92 lakh in combined seizures (country liquor and IMFL), also ranks among the biggest contributors.Sardarnagar, however, stands out more sharply by the number of country liquor cases. It recorded 1,261, the highest in the city, while Odhav recorded 560.The east also topped in illicit liquor-manufacturing cases. Of the 63 cases recorded across the city, 59 were in the eastern belt. Eastern stations accounted for 36,307 litres of the 38,687 litres of materials seized. The overall seizure value translates to approximately Rs 5.9 lakh a day over the 212 days from Jan 1 to July 31.The figures show the geography of detected prohibition offences and seizures; they cannot by themselves establish that liquor consumption or illegal sales are necessarily higher in the east, said a senior police officer.
