Nagpur: Some cities in Vidarbha recorded their highest temperatures of the season on Saturday, with Akola and Amravati both sizzling at 45.6°C, placing them on the third position among the most heat-affected regions worldwide. Wardha followed at fourth place at 45.5°C, indicating widespread severe heat across the region.Nagpur’s mercury soared to 44.2°C, which is 2.9 degrees above normal, reflecting persistent above-average heat levels in the city.The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Vidarbha on Sunday, warning of persistently above-normal heat conditions over the next few days.As per IMD data, several parts of the region are recording maximum temperatures in the range of 40°C to 44°C, with deviations of up to 5°C above normal in some areas. Among the places that reported temperatures above 43°C also included Chandrapur (44.2°C), Bramhapuri (44.1°C) and Bhandara (44.0°C).Amravati officially experienced heatwave conditions, as temperatures crossed the normal level by a significant margin.The forecast suggests a slight rise in temperatures initially, followed by a gradual dip later in the week. However, heat stress is expected to remain significant, particularly during afternoon hours. Warm night conditions may also add to discomfort levels in urban areas like Nagpur. Residents have been advised to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities. Special caution has been recommended for children, senior citizens and those with existing health issues.
