Akola: As Vidarbha is reeling under heatwave, Akola recorded a blistering 45°C on Friday and was the hottest location in Maharashtra and closely followed by Amravati which recorded 44.8°C. Temperatures in most districts in the region hovered around 44°C mark.The sharp spike in temperature has severely impacted daily life in Akola, with roads wearing a deserted look during peak afternoon hours.According to R Kaushal, head of India Meteorological Department (IMD) centre in Akola, temperatures are expected to remain appreciably high till April 30. Hot winds and heatwave conditions are expected to persist over the next three to four days.The Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur has issued a heatwave alert for Akola and surrounding districts between April 25 and 27.While there is a possibility of light rain and gusty winds on April 29 and 30, officials caution that it is unlikely to bring significant relief from the prevailing heat.
