Churachandpur: Unidentified youths shut down the executive officer’s town office under the chief executive officer (CEO)/ADC in Churachandpur at around 2pm to 3pm on Tuesday and later set fire to the office furniture.According to reports, the youths asked all staff and others inside the office to vacate before locking it.The incident comes a day after three student organisations — Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF), and Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) — issued a statement opposing the transfer order of Lalthajam MCS, CEO/ADC Churachandpur, issued by the Manipur govt on March 28. The groups argued that the transfer was made without consulting stakeholders and at a time when several pressing issues in the district remain unresolved.The student bodies urged CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh to retain Lalthajam MCS as CEO/ADC Churachandpur. They questioned why Churachandpur’s CEO was singled out for transfer while no other district CEOs were affected, alleging that the move reflects disregard for the wishes of the people and aligns with MLAs opposed to forming a popular govt.The newly appointed CEO/ADC Churachandpur, Shokhongam Baite MCS, assumed charge on Tuesday.
