Udupi: Yakshagana Kalaranga Saturday handed over its 92nd house to a beneficiary family at Udyavara in Udupi as part of its social service initiatives. The house, named Nanda Deepa, was sponsored by M Gangadhara Rao, president of Yakshagana Kalaranga and managing director of Nandakumar Associates. It was built for Yajna, an I PUC student and daughter of Kusuma and Krishna. She is a beneficiary under the Yakshagana Kalaranga Vidya Poshak scheme. Sri Vishwavallabha Thirta of Sode Mutt inaugurated the house and described Rao as a model president and philanthropist who earmarks part of his income for social welfare. He said leaders who personally contribute to service activities strengthen moral values and public trust. Rao has sponsored six houses through the organisation. Presiding over the function, Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty said Yakshagana Kalaranga’s disciplined functioning set an example. Welcoming the gathering, Rao said he was happy to be associated with the organisation and admired its social commitment.
