Udupi: A woman was killed and her daughter seriously injured after a lorry rammed their scooter near Mabukala Bridge on NH-66 in Airody village of Brahmavara taluk Saturday. The deceased is Nirmala, 54.According to a complaint by Shobha of Handadi village, Nirmala was riding from the Udupi-Kundapur stretch towards Kota with her daughter Nireeksha, 16, while Shobha was travelling on a scooter in the opposite direction.Around 1.45pm, a lorry driven by Venkateshwaralu allegedly came at high speed in a rash and negligent manner and hit Nirmala’s scooter. The impact hurled the vehicle into the bridge guard, throwing both riders onto the road. Nirmala suffered severe head injuries, while Nireeksha sustained grievous injuries to her back, face, hand and shoulder.They were rushed to Brahmavar Govt Hospital, where doctors declared Nirmala dead on arrival. Nireeksha has been admitted for treatment. Kota police have registered a case under sections 281, 125(b) and 106 of BNS.Car hits parked truck; two killedIn another accident, a woman and a child were killed and several others were injured when a speeding car crashed into a parked container truck on NH-66 in Byndoor Saturday evening. The deceased are Mamata, 40, and Druti, 12, who were travelling in the car.Police said the accident occurred when Raghu was driving from Kundapur towards Byndoor. He allegedly drove negligently at high speed, veered to the extreme left, and struck the rear-right side of a container truck parked in front of a service shop.Mamata and Druti died on the spot. Other occupants of the car — Kiran, Jahnavi, Kavya and Charvi — along with the driver, sustained injuries. Byndoor police have registered a case under sections 281, 125(a), 125(b) and 106 of BNS.
