Coimbatore: Karnataka police on Saturday, seized a private bus from Coimbataore in Chikkamagaluru, and booked its driver and owner for displaying graphics ‘glorifying’ fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, who is designated as a terrorist by India.The bus, registered in Tamil Nadu, was carrying 48 engineering students from Coimbatore, who were returning from a college trip to Dandeli. Around 3pm on Saturday, Basavanahalli police received information about the bus and the graphics painted on it.“The graphics on the bus were prejudicial to the nation’s sovereignty and integrity. The bus, operated by a travel agency, was intercepted and seized,” said a police officer. He added that an alternative vehicle was arranged for students to continue their journey.Meanwhile, during questioning, the driver said he was only operating the bus and did not have anything to do with the controversial graphics. Both the driver and owner have been booked under section 197(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, which deals with imputations prejudicial to national integration. The owner, who is based in Coimbatore, has been asked to join the inquiry.
