Mysuru: A routine school day turned into terrifying incident in Mysuru when a venomous snake was found inside the bag of a third standard girl student. When Ruchita had just returned home, and was about to unpack her books and sensed unusual movement in the bag. She immediately dropped it near the garage and informed her parents.Understanding the gravity of the situation, the family quickly contacted rescuer ‘Snake’ Shyam. For over 49 years, Shyam has rescued more than 98,000 snakes across Mysuru. He rushed to their home at Yelwala and carefully opened the bag, revealing a nearly 2.5foot-long venomous snake coiled amidst the books. The reptile was safely captured and later released in a suitable habitat, ensuring no harm to the child or locals.Shyam told TOI that such incidents can occur when children leave school bags open in playgrounds or place them on grassy surfaces where snakes may seek shelter. He urged parents to advise children to keep their bags zipped and check belongings before use.He also cautioned that with rising temperatures, snakes tend to move towards cool and shaded areas, increasing the chances of encounters in residential localities. Children playing outdoors, especially during the summer holidays, should remain alert while entering bushes he said.
