Varanasi: Two minor sisters, aged 13 and 16, were allegedly sexually assaulted by two men in Mau’s Ranipur police station area on June 8. The elder girl later died by suicide on the outskirts of the village, police said.Based on a complaint by the surviving younger sister, police on Friday registered an FIR and arrested one accused, while search is on for the other.According to police, the sisters left their house after an altercation with family members. The elder girl later contacted an acquaintance and asked him to meet her at a nearby location. He allegedly arrived with another person, following which the elder girl was assaulted, while the younger girl was also raped by the other person, police said.Police said the accused left the spot, after which the elder girl allegedly died by suicide. The younger sister returned home the next morning and informed family members, following which the matter was reported.Additional SP Anoop Kumar said the younger girl has undergone a medical examination and her statement has been recorded before a court. Based on her statement, two accused have been identified. One was arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the second.
