Varanasi: A 20-year-old student of a private institute was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the stairs of a guest house in the city on Wednesday. Although Sarnath police were waiting for the arrival of postmortem report, it was suspected that the woman was administered a dose by her boyfriend to abort her 3-month pregnancy. The accused was nabbed from his Jaunpur residence on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.ACP (Sarnath) Vidush Saxena said on Thursday that the 20-year-old woman was found unconscious on the stairs of a guest house adjacent to a private nursing college on Wednesday morning. Police rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Doctors at the hospital could not determine the cause of death as no external injuries were noticed on the body, said the ACP, adding that the body was sent for post mortem and its report was awaited to know actual cause of death.Father of the deceased is a policeman posted in Chandauli district. On the complaint of her family, a senior student of the same college was taken into custody for questioning. Further action would be taken on arrival of postmortem report and after receiving complaint from family of the deceased.Around 11.30 am on Wednesday, an electrician of the guest house noticed her body lying in in blood and raised an alarm. The watchman called police and the woman was rushed to the hospital. The guest house operates as a boys hostel of the nursing college in which the woman and her alleged boyfriend studied.Following initial questioning of the watchman and family members and after checking her call details, police reached the house of her boyfriend in Mirganj area of Jaunpur district and picked him. During initial interrogation, it came to light that he is a third-year student at the nursing college in which the woman was a year junior to him. He confessed he was in a relationship with her for two years and divulged that his girlfriend was three months pregnant. He said they had sought help of qualified doctors who refused to terminate the pregnancy without speaking to her parents.The duo planned to take medicine to terminate the pregnancy on the basis of information gathered from books and Internet. It is suspected that heavy bleeding started because of the medicine. The accused said he panicked on seeing blood and fled to his home in Jaunpur.Police said that heavy bleeding was evident but they will reach any conclusion regarding actual cause of death only after postmortem report arrives.
