Kanpur: A 40-year-old man allegedly jumped off the Ganga Bridge into the river in an intoxicated state on Sunday morning.However, boatmen present below the bridge jumped into the river and rescued him safely.On questioning, the man told police that he worked in a tannery and was facing problems at work, because of which he took the extreme step.He was later taken to a medical facility and, after treatment, was handed over to his family.In another incident, a 38-year-old woman allegedly jumped into the Ganga on Sunday morning but was rescued in time by boatmen present near the bridge.According to police, the woman was riding a bike with her husband when she got off on the pretext that her slipper had fallen and allegedly jumped into the river.On questioning, she told police that her husband had allegedly been harassing her for a long time and that she was mentally distressed, because of which she took the extreme step.
