Kanpur: The Kanpur division is likely to receive more rain on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers in several areas. Rain accompanied by strong gusty winds is likely in several areas, particularly during the late night and early morning hours. In Kanpur Nagar, cloud cover is expected to increase during the afternoon, while there are chances of heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning once or twice during the night, according to the IMD forecast.The city, meanwhile, received light rain around 4pm on Sunday, bringing down the daytime temperature but increasing the sultry conditions. The CSA weather observatory recorded maximum relative humidity at 84%.Southeasterly winds blew at a speed of 11.7 kmph, providing some relief from the humid weather during the day.The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.7°C, 1.3°C higher than Saturday’s figure, while the minimum temperature stood at 26.4°C.Weather expert at CSA University, S N Sunil Pandey said increased atmospheric moisture and the formation of new weather systems were enhancing the moisture flow over the region. As a result, the Kanpur division is likely to experience cloudy skies between August 10 and 11, he said.“There is a possibility of intermittent strong winds and scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning in isolated pockets,” Pandey said. Strong surface winds may also occur, while sunny spells are likely to appear intermittently. Humid conditions are expected to persist, he added.
