Kanpur: A case has been registered against three people for allegedly removing around 398 kg of turmeric powder seized by the Food Safety and Drug Administration team at M/s Shyama Traders located in Chakeri Dwitiya Audhyogik Kshetra.On the complaint of food Safety officer Narendra Kumar, Chakeri police have registered an FIR against establishment owner Vijay Chaurasia, food business operator Ashish Kumar Chaurasia and Rinku Chaurasia under sections 316(2), 61(2), 223 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In laboratory testing, the turmeric sample was found substandard and unsafe for human consumption.A team of the Food Safety and Drug Administration had inspected the establishment located at F-27, Chakeri Dwitiya Audhyogik Kshetra, on June 11 in the presence of Ashish. The name of Vijay Chaurasia was given as the owner of the establishment and food licence holder.During the inspection, the team found nearly 400 kg of turmeric powder in 16 sacks. On suspicion, a 2 kg sample of turmeric powder was sent to laboratory for testing. The remaining 398 kg of turmeric powder was seized and handed over to the safe custody of the food business operator. Its value was stated to be about Rs 1.19 lakh.In the report received from the laboratory on Aug 10, the turmeric powder sample was found substandard and unsafe for human consumption.On the orders of Ayukt Khadya Suraksha Uttar Pradesh, and on the directions of the Sahayak Ayukt (Khadya), a joint team of the Food Safety Department again inspected the establishment on Aug 11 . The seized turmeric powder was found missing from the establishment. The team’s investigation revealed that it had been removed from the establishment.The Food Safety Department filed a complaint at Chakeri police station and a case was registered against all three accused. In addition, the department will also get a case registered under section 60 of the Food Safety Standards Act.
