Kanpur: Two children died after complaining of severe stomach pain at a school hostel in the City Kotwali area of Banda early Monday, while another fell ill and was admitted to hospital, police and school authorities said. The cause of the deaths was not immediately clear.BSA AR Tiwari said two children had died and the school did not have recognition for running a hostel. He said an investigation was underway and added that the children whose health deteriorated were among those who had eaten momos.Around 3 am, Nitin (12) complained of severe stomach pain to the hostel warden. Half an hour later, another child, Arun (8), also complained of stomach pain. Around 5 am, both were taken to the medical college, where doctors declared them dead. At 5:30 pm, another student, Chandrapal (8), fell ill and was admitted to hospital.Nitin, a Class 6 student, and Arun, a Class 2 student, stayed at the hostel of BL Vidya Mandir in Jheel Ka Purwa. A total of 34 children live in the hostel.School manager Om Prakash Kushwaha claimed that the children ate dal, roti and sabzi on Sunday night before going to sleep around 10:30 pm. Nitin complained of severe stomach pain around 3 am, followed by Arun half an hour later. Both were taken to hospital around 5 am, where doctors declared them dead.Family members rushed to the medical college after receiving information about the deaths. Arun’s mother alleged that the school did not inform the family promptly.Additional SP Shivraj said the two children died after their health deteriorated and that postmortems were being conducted.
