Times News NetworkKanpur: Rajvardhan Tiwari (Maharashtra), Devansh Chakravarti (West Bengal), Arjun Sen (West Bengal) and Granth (Haryana) defeated their rivals and sailed into the semifinal of the Under-11 boys’ group in UTT first National Ranking Table Tennis championship played at TSH on Monday.Rajvardhan Tiwari, defeated Tamil Nadu’s Mohammed Rehan 14-12, 11-2, 11-3 in the first quarter final. West Bengal’s Debanshu Chakraborty defeated Gujarat’s Reyansh Singhvi in straight games, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 in the second quarter final.The best and the well contested tie was played between Arjun Sen and Naksh Mahajan of Maharashtra. Arjun in five game encounters drubbed Naksh by 11-4 ,8-11, 12-10, 10-12 and 11-6. Granth Duklan too faced a tough challenge from Mayukh Sarkar (West Bengal). Trailing 1-2 set behind Granth staged a comeback and won the tie by 11-8, 8-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9.In the semifinal Rajvardhan Tiwari will play against Arjun Sen while Granth Duklan will face the challenge of Debanshu Chakravarti.All four quarterfinals of the girls’ group were too well contested. West Bengal’s Varenya Sarkar defeated Maharashtra’s Dhadakkan Tanna 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8. Meanwhile, West Bengal’s Kritika Saibo staged a brilliant comeback after losing the first two games against Telangana’s Chetan Adhira, securing a victory with a scoreline of 10-12, 5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8.The most spectacular comeback of the day was staged by Punjab’s Inaya.After losing the first two games 10-12, 10-12 to Delhi’s Aaradhya Kashyap, Inaya won the next three games 11-2, 11-4, 11-7 to advance to the semi-finals. Haryana’s Phalgun Gupta defeated her teammate Mahi Kumari 11-7, 11-9, 11-5.Meanwhile, the qualifying matches for the Under-13 boys’ and girls’ categories have also concluded. The successful players have advanced to the main draw. Kanpur’s Aparajit Singh and Adhiraj Majumdar also delivered impressive performances to secure their spots in the main draw.Several distinguished sports enthusiasts and officials were present during the competition, including Nirmoy Mitra, Yatin Tipnis (Maharashtra), Atul Nanda (Punjab), Arjuna Awardee Abhinn Shyam Gupta, Sanjay Tandon, Sunil Singh, Abhishek Yadav, Avinash Yadav, Anil Gupta, and Satyam Mishra.
