Kanpur: Tension gripped Bithoor on Friday morning after Shivling and Nandi idols were found vandalised in two ancient Shiva temples located about 10 metres apart.The matter came to light when area councillor Surav Savita visited one of the temples for regular prayers and found the idols damaged. He immediately informed the police, following which inspector Ashok Kumar Saroj reached the spot with a police force.As news of the vandalism spread, widespread anger erupted among local residents, who demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the act.Considering the sensitivity of the situation, heavy police deployment was made in the area to prevent any untoward incident.Police are scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed around the temple premises to identify the culprits. Further investigation is underway.
