Kanpur: Cloudy skies, brisk easterly winds and active monsoon conditions brought relief from the sultry weather in Kanpur on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours. Despite humidity remaining high, strong easterly winds made the weather comparatively pleasant.According to the weather observatory, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.2 degrees Celsius, just 0.2 degrees lower than the previous day, while the minimum temperature settled at 26 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity remained high at 85 per cent, but easterly winds blowing at speeds ranging from 9.7 kmph to 26.3 kmph prevented discomfort despite the moisture-laden atmosphere.The IMD has forecast continued cloudy conditions over the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours, with a strong possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The active monsoon system is expected to maintain high humidity levels, creating muggy conditions between spells of rainfall.The IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature will remain between 32°C and 33°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover between 26°C and 27°C. The probability of thunderstorms and rain or showers during the afternoon and night has been estimated at 55 to 75 per cent.Winds are expected to blow from the east-southeast (ESE) at speeds of 10 to 15 kmph. Moisture levels in the atmosphere are likely to remain between 75 and 90 per cent, indicating persistently humid weather conditions across the region.Weather expert Dr S. N. Sunil Pandey of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) said increasing atmospheric moisture and the formation of fresh weather systems are likely to keep the Kanpur division under cloudy skies from July 23 to July 26.He said isolated areas may experience strong surface winds, scattered light drizzle, and light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during this period. Intermittent sunshine is also expected between rain spells as the monsoon remains active over the region.The prevailing weather pattern is expected to provide respite from excessive heat, although high humidity may continue to cause discomfort during dry intervals between showers.
