Lucknow: A 60-year-old man was hammered to death by his nephew following an argument in Sahroi Sikitaha village of Sitapur district late Saturday night, police said.Police said that the accused, Anoop Rathore, 38, committed the crime under the influence of liquor.Anoop left home on Saturday afternoon to buy fertilizer but returned around 11.30pm in an inebriated state without making the purchase.His elder brother, Adesh Rathore, reprimanded him for drinking and irresponsible conduct and said that he would not lend his motorcycle to Anoop in future.An argument broke out between the brothers, after which Anoop, in a fit of rage, damaged his mobile phone and vandalised the motorcycle. He then dragged the motorcycle to a village pathway and set it on fire.Anoop’s uncle, Gangaram, came to know about the incident and reached the spot. On seeing the motorcycle in flames, Gangaram scolded Anoop for his reckless behaviour. This further enraged the accused, who picked up a hammer lying nearby and struck Gangaram repeatedly on the head.Gangaram suffered critical injuries and was taken to the district hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.Police teams reached the village and collected forensic and material evidence. Inspector Shyamu Kanojia said that a murder case had been registered against Anoop on the complaint of his mother.
