Lucknow: An eight-year-old boy was critically injured after a wild animal attacked him in the Khairighat area of Bahraich district on Saturday night. The child’s life was saved after family members and villagers rushed to the spot on hearing his screams and managed to drive the animal away by raising an alarm and chasing it with sticks.The incident occurred in Belamakan village under the Khairighat police station limits. According to local sources, the victim, identified as Umesh (8), was returning home from a neighbouring house late in the evening when the attack took place.

As Umesh walked through the village, a wild animal reportedly emerged suddenly from nearby bushes and pounced on him. The animal attacked the child with considerable force, causing panic in the area. Hearing the boy’s cries for help, his family members and nearby villagers immediately rushed towards the scene.Villagers raised loud shouts and chased the animal with sticks, forcing it to flee and leaving the child behind. However, by the time the attack stopped, Umesh sustained a deep injury to his neck.The injured child was initially taken to a nearby primary health centre, where he received first aid. Considering the seriousness of his injuries, doctors referred him to the district hospital for advanced treatment. Hospital authorities said that the child’s condition remains critical, and he is undergoing treatment under medical supervision.The identity of the wild animal involved in the attack is not yet confirmed. Forest department officials advised residents of the area to remain alert, especially during night-time, and avoid venturing out alone. Further monitoring of the area is being carried out to prevent any similar incidents.
