Bhubaneswar: A former inmate of Choudwar circle jail in Cuttack lodged a police complaint on Sunday against the prison’s senior superintendent, Sujit Kumar Raula, alleging that her gold ornaments were not returned when she was released on bail. The woman claimed she was sent to prison on Sept 23 last year in connection with a crime and had deposited her earrings, a gold ring, and a nose ring with jail authorities.
“When I was released on bail on Dec 23, they failed to return my ornaments,” she alleged. Police said her complaint is being verified.Dismissing the allegations, Raula said, “Former jailer Santoshini Dash had taken the ornaments into her custody. She did not hand them over to us when she was transferred.” Dash, however, refuted the allegation. The dispute comes amid existing tension between Raula and Dash. Both were recently issued show-cause notices by the prisons directorate after they filed police complaints against each other, accusing one another of negligence in connection with last year’s Choudwar jailbreak incident.
