Dharwad: The 50th year ‘Shivasphurti Mahashivaratri Suvarna Sangeetotsava’ will be celebrated in Dharwad from Friday to Sunday. The three-day music festival is being organised by the Shivasphurti Mahashivaratri Suvarna Sangeetotsava Celebration Committee, Mudi Maruti Galli in association with Shri Kumareshwar Cultural Society.On Friday and Saturday, the programmes will be held at Alur Venkatrao Cultural Bhavan in Dharwad from 5 pm onwards. On Sunday, the concluding all-night musical event and presentation of the ‘Swarna Sadhaka Shiva’ awards will take place from 6 pm at the Mudi Maruti Temple premises.

The festival will feature renowned artistes from across the state and country, and will serve as a confluence of senior and emerging musicians.On Feb 13, the audience will be treated to a shehnai recital by Rudresh Bhajantri and Nikhil Joshi, followed by a sitar jugalbandi. Pt Satalingappa Desai Kallur will accompany on tabla, while Vidushi Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar will present a vocal concert with Pt Ravindra Yavagal on tabla. A Shivachitra Gana presentation will feature Radha Desai, Sujata Gurav, Bhargavi Kulkarni and Veena Savadatti, accompanied by Vadiraj Dandapur (tabla), Prasad Madiwal (pakhawaj) and Parashuram Kattisangavi (harmonium).On Feb 14, Padma Shri awardee Pt M Venkatesh Kumar will present a vocal recital. Naushad and Nishad Halapur will also perform, along with a santoor and bansuri jugalbandi by Suma Hegde and Sunil Kumar. Accompanying artistes include Pt Raghunath Nakod, Shrihari Diggavi, Vijaykumar Sutar and Basavaraj Hiremath.The Feb 15 all-night devotional music programme at Mudi Maruti Temple will feature Shri Gururaj Bhajana Mandali, young artistes of Swararanjani Music School and Kalakeri Sangeet Vidyalaya, and Hrishikesh Arabatti.The festival is supported by Samskara Bharati, Dharwad, and Kalakeri Sangeet Vidyalaya.The prestigious ‘Swarna Sadhaka Shiva Prashasti’ will be conferred on distinguished artistes including Padma Shri Pt M Venkatesh Kumar, Vidushi Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, Pt Pathasarathy, Pt Raghunath Nakod, Pt Ravindra Yavagal, Vidushi Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni, Pt Satalingappa Desai Kallur, Vadiraj Dandapur, Sujata Gurav, Vinayak Hegde and Vijay Gonhalu.The ‘Swarna Kalaposhaka Sadhaka Shiva Prashasti’ will be presented to Bharatidevi Rajguru, Chandrakant Bellad, Adam Woodward, NM Pattar and Sameer Joshi, while the ‘Sadhaka Shiva Samman’ will be given to Nikhil Joshi, Shrihari Diggavi, Suma Hegde, Sunil Kumar and Atharva Vairagkar, said Veeranna Pattar, president of the festival committee.
