Varanasi: Govt Railway Police on Tuesday caught a person carrying unaccounted cash worth Rs 1.80 crore in two trolley bags at Ballia railay station. The cash was brought from Jhansi to be delivered in Bihar. Income Tax officials were investigating the case.Providing details of the action, CO GRP SR Gautam said that under the ongoing checking drive in view of the Shrawan month the GRP personnel were checking platforms and trains when they noticed a suspicious youth at a platform. As the police headed towards him, the youth tried to escape, but the GRP personnel foiled his bid and nabbed him after giving a chase. When his two trolley bags were opened, currency notes in denominations of Rs 500 were found in it. The CO added that the total value of the cash was found to be Rs 1.80 crore.The man carrying the cash boarded the train from Jhansi and was headed towards Chhapra in Bihar. As he failed to produce any document in support of the recovered cash, the GRP called the IT officials. The cash was handed over to the IT officials for further investigation, said the CO.
