Gorakhpur: Uproar erupted at the 26th Battalion PAC campus in Gorakhpur on Wednesday as nearly 600 women constable trainees staged a protest over poor facilities and unhygienic living conditions.Trainees, who had arrived on Monday for their induction, blocked the main gate in Bichhia, voicing strong concerns over lack of clean drinking water, electricity and inadequate toilet facilities. Several even alleged privacy violations, claiming CCTV cameras were installed near bathroom corridors.Senior district officials rushed to the site and pacified the protestors after an hour-long standoff. The women trainees, however, continued their sit-in near the administrative building, demanding concrete action.Following a high-level probe, IG, PAC, Central Zone, Preetinder Singh clarified that the camera allegations were found to be “entirely baseless and without factual evidence.” He further said that the privacy, dignity and welfare of women constables remain a top priority for the police department. “The department is committed to providing safe and high-quality training facilities to all recruits. The trainee’s concerns were investigated promptly. The technical snag in power supply has been resolved and water services restored,” the IG said in a video message posted on the UP Police’s official X account.He also confirmed that a PTI accused of using inappropriate language with trainees has been suspended. “Strict action will be taken against anyone who spreads rumours or disrupts discipline, including those circulating misinformation on social media,” he added.PAC Commandant Anand Kumar stated that infrastructure upgrades are underway, including installation of additional toilets and improved water arrangements, to ensure a conducive environment for the batch of 598 women recruits.
