Varanasi: A 57-year-old medical practitioner in Varanasi fell victim to extortion after seeking the services of a gay individual through an app, resulting in financial loss of Rs 8 lakh.Police said that the doctor checked into a hotel on July 20 and contacted a man via an app, inviting him to the room. The accused arrived with beer and other items. After consuming beer, the doctor removed his clothes and requested him to do the same. However, he clicked nude photos and videos of the doctor. He then tried to thrash the doctor telling him that homosexual practice at his age in the holy city was not fair.He threatened the doctor that he would send his photos to his acquaintances and relatives if he did not transfer money to his bank accounts. In the span of two days, the accused transferred Rs 8 lakh to the account of the accused.Later, the doctor filed an FIR in this connection. Inspector, Sigra, Sanjay Kumar Mishra said that a case had been registered under sections 308(4) (extortion), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused.The police are using the hotel’s CCTV footage and are reviewing money transfers through UPI numbers and other transactions. Officials said that the accused would be arrested soon.
