Kanpur: Two men accused of robbing a teacher’s house in Chakeri after holding his family hostage were arrested after being injured in an encounter late Wednesday, while police continued their search for two other accused. The duo sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the exchange of fire and were admitted to hospital.Police said they had earlier arrested the mastermind, Prashant alias Monu, the brother-in-law of teacher Sharad Chandra Tripathi.Three miscreants entered the house of Tripathi in Shyam Nagar C Block under the Chakeri police station area three days back after holding his wife Rachna and son hostage. They looted jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh and cash. cOn Wednesday afternoon, police arrested Prashant alias Monu, Tripathi’s brother-in-law. Police said he confessed that he, along with four associates, had conducted a recce of his brother-in-law’s house before the robbery.ACP Vipin Tada said that late Wednesday, they laid a cordon around Shafeeq Ahmad, a resident of Unnao, and Kamal, a resident of Shivkatra in Chakeri, who were allegedly involved in the robbery. He said the accused opened fire on the police team, and in retaliatory firing, both sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were arrested.Police recovered the motorcycle and country-made pistols allegedly used in the crime from the accused.
