Kanpur: An additional sessions judge on Thursday rejected the bail application of Yash Pratap Singh, a resident of Nawabganj, who was arrested in connection with a cyber fraud case.Singh, who has been in jail since July 18, 2026, claimed in his bail application that he had been falsely implicated by police. He alleged that police detained him on July 16 on the pretext of questioning and later demanded money from him, threatening to implicate him in a criminal case if he failed to pay.He further claimed that no incriminating material was recovered from him and that there was no independent witness against him.The prosecution strongly opposed the bail plea. Assistant district govt counsel Bhaskar Mishra told the court that Singh was allegedly part of a syndicate that defrauded people by promising high returns on share market investments.According to the prosecution, the accused obtained victims’ bank account details, ATM cards, cheque books and mobile numbers, which were allegedly used to route money generated through cyber fraud.According to the prosecution, Singh’s name surfaced during the investigation when other accused persons named in the FIR allegedly identified him as a co-accused in the offence.The prosecution further informed the court that at the time of Singh’s arrest, police allegedly recovered four ATM cards belonging to different individuals, along with cheque books and passbooks.In its order, the court observed that the investigating officer had collected transaction details of the bank account concerned and found multiple transactions originating from different states. The judge noted that the material on record prima facie indicated that the accused was part of a syndicate allegedly involved in cyber fraud. Considering that the investigation is still underway and that more than 50 complaints have been linked to the account, the court observed that there was a possibility of the accused absconding or tampering with evidence if released on bail.Considering the seriousness of the allegations and the evidence collected so far, the court found no sufficient ground to grant bail and rejected Singh’s application.
