Dhanbad: Hundreds of people staged a road blockade on the Dhanbad–Jharia main road near Bastacola on Tuesday to protest LPG crisis in the area. For the past three to four days, consumers claimed that they have been struggling to get cooking gas cylinders. Many residents have been coming to the local gas agency early in the morning with empty cylinders, only to return disappointed as supplies remain unavailable. The situation has led to growing frustration among the public.
Locals have alleged mismanagement and black marketing at the agency.Rahul Modak, one of the consumers, said that earlier, cylinders were delivered directly to homes after booking, but now people are being forced to stand in long queues.Residents further alleged that the agency staff were deliberately creating an artificial shortage to sell cylinders at higher prices.According to them, an extra amount ranging between Rs 300 and Rs 500 is being charged per cylinder.A large number of people gathered near the gas agency from early Tuesday morning and started protesting, disrupting traffic for nearly half an hour.Local police reached the spot and managed to disperse the crowd after persuasion.
