Chatra: The district administration on Tuesday launched an online portal for residents to report defunct hand pumps in their areas. The move, officials said, is aimed at mitigating possible shortages of water during the summer months.Residents can register complaints through the Loksetu Chatra portal by logging on to https://loksetuchatra.in/Chapakal-Complaint.aspx. The portal will cater take in complaints both from rural and urban areas of the district. Complainants can also track the status of their requests online.A significant share of the district’s population becomes dependent on hand pump for water for drinking and daily use. Frequent breakdowns often lead to hardships for residents, making timely intervention essential.Deputy Commissioner Kirtishiree G said, “Ensuring uninterrupted drinking water supply is a top priority for the district, mainly during the summer. The digital system will eliminate the need for people to visit govt offices to lodge complaints. I have asked the officials to regularly monitor complaints on the portal and ensure their disposal within a stipulated time. Emphasis was also laid on maintaining quality in repair work to prevent recurring issues. Residents should promptly report any defunct hand pumps to ensure timely restoration.”
