Times News NetworkThiruvananthapuram: Remains of a preserved fetus, estimated to be around six months old, was found within the premises of Govt Medical College Hospital (MCH), Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday morning, prompting a detailed police investigation.Security personnel discovered the fetus in the parking area adjacent to multi-specialty block around 7am during routine rounds. Hospital authorities were immediately informed, following which Medical College police reached the spot and shifted the remains to mortuary.A postmortem examination was conducted. Police said preliminary findings indicate that the fetus was preserved, suggesting that it may have been part of medical or academic use within the institution.Police are examining whether the remains were sourced from within the medical college, including departments such as anatomy, where specimens are used for study. Police are also probing if the fetus could have been among those buried in designated areas within the campus after academic use.“One of the possibilities being examined is whether remains buried on the campus were later disturbed, possibly by stray animals, and ended up in the parking area,” a police officer said.Officers clarified that it did not appear to have been recently abandoned, indicating that it may not be linked to any recent medical case. CCTV footage from the premises and access points is being reviewed and hospital records are under scrutiny to trace the source.Hospital authorities said they and are cooperating with police investigation.Police said further clarity on the circumstances will emerge after detailed examination of records and forensic findings.
