Srinagar, Sep 01: Jammu and Kashmir parts witnessed fresh rainfall on Tuesday amid cloudy weather conditions, bringing down the temperature by a few degrees after a brief rise in mercury over the past couple of days.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places till Wednesday evening.
Director Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, with brief intense heavy showers in the Jammu division towards early morning, late afternoon and evening hours till September 2.
On September 3, the weather would remain generally dry with brief showers at a few places, while on September 4, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places with brief intense showers.
From September 5 to September 12, generally dry weather is expected across Jammu and Kashmir with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at isolated to scattered places towards early morning and afternoon hours.
Amid the forecast of light to moderate rain till Wednesday, several areas across J&K witnessed precipitation. According to MeT, significant rainfall was recorded at multiple places, with Kathua AWS recording 73 mm, Katra 62 mm, Poonch 38.5 mm, Udhampur 27 mm and Jammu 1.4 mm till Tuesday morning.
In Kashmir, rainfall was also received from multiple areas, including Budgam, Bandipora, Shopian, Pahalgam, Anantnag and other areas.
The MeT has also issued an advisory, saying that brief intense showers at localized areas may generate flash floods, mudslides and landslides during September 1 and 2. “Farmers may continue harvesting and other farm operations,” the advisory reads.
