Kanpur: PRD jawan Anil Kumar Gupta, resident of Bausar village in Narwal tehsil of Kanpur, alleged that the electricity department has initiated a fraudulent case against him by inaccurately reporting an outstanding amount of several lakhs of rupees.On Thursday, Anil submitted a complaint to sub-divisional magistrate Satyapal Prajapati regarding the issue urging for a comprehensive investigation in the matter.In his complaint, Anil stated that his father had obtained an electricity connection in 1987. His father was suffering from cancer and he passed away in 2001. He claimed that neither he nor his family had any knowledge about the electricity connection. Anil learnt of the situation on June 19, 2026, upon receiving a warrant from the police about a case filed against him at Maharajpur police station under the Electricity Act in 2015. In the case, he was accused of having an outstanding electricity bill of Rs 63.86 lakh and illegal consumption of electricity.Anil asserted that he had not utilised electricity through that connection.The SDM instructed the relevant officials to carry out a detailed investigation.
